Keith died on July 31, 1986 – a month before leaving for college, where he had successfully entered. This is one of the reasons why his sister did not believe in the possibility of suicide and dedicates her life to change her brother’s death certificate.
The young man’s family was also worried by the small tree where he was “hanged” and the two ropes used to commit suicide – this made the hanging impossible. Later, the police cut down the tree, calling it “evidence”, even though they had already closed the case.
The family was also outraged that the police did not carry out an autopsy on the remains, but immediately sent Kate’s body to a funeral home to prepare her for burial.
Sherry reveals in the docu-series that several people were looking for her in the days before Kate went missing, including Mark Finley, who was not a close friend of Kate’s, and that they had fallen out and not communicated for a long time. Also of concern was the fact that the student was sought after by African-Americans, while his friends were mostly white.

For six years, the police ignored Sherry’s questions, the revelations about her brother’s death. In 1992, on Kate’s birthday, Sherry received a mysterious envelope containing photos from the crime scene. The pictures showed that the brother was wearing strange clothes and also shoes.
The police had returned his jacket and brown shoes to the family, neither the jacket nor the shoes appear in the crime scene footage. The footage also revealed traces of soil on the white t-shirt, giving the impression that the young man had been lying on the ground before being hanged. Police confirmed that these are official crime scene photos.
The remains were exhumed, which revealed chemicals, and lethal amounts at that. It appeared that Keith had been murdered, although some medical experts claimed that the chemicals were from the embalming process, even though substances unrelated to the embalming fluid were found.
Mark Finley might be able to answer the questions, but he was dead too, a man run over by a car soon after Kate’s death. The question arises, maybe it was a murder?
In 2009, Kate’s mother Mary died without ever knowing what happened to her son. Sherry continues to investigate and hopes that the truth will be revealed and the culprit will be punished.
