Russia’s Medvedev Vows Revenge for Western Sanctions on Ukraine Invasion Anniversary

Ex president Russia Dmitry Medvedev, who is a hard-line figure in the attacks against Ukrainesaid that Moscow would take “revenge” for massive Western sanctions.

The day before, the United States government announced new sanctions ahead of the two-year mark Russian invasion of Ukraine and after the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny in prison.

The latest sanctions cover 500 targets, including the Mir credit card system, created by Russia to avoid dependence on US-based networks, and key businesses.

“The rationale (behind the sanctions) is clear: the worse it is for Russian citizens, the better it is for the Western world,” Medvedev said via social media, as reported by the news agency AFPSaturday (24/2/2024).

“We all just need to remember this and take revenge on them wherever possible. They are our enemies,” said Putin’s ally who is now Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

Medvedev called on Russians to “create economic difficulties for (the West) and arouse public displeasure at the incompetent policies of Western governments.”

He also said Russia should “carry out other activities on their territory that cannot be discussed publicly,” he added, without elaborating.
