Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s Plane Runs Out of Fuel in Brazil: Refueling Issues Due to Sanctions Concerns

The plane of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov ran out of fuel in Brazil, where no official company could be found to refuel it.

The Russian foreign minister arrived at the G-20 meeting in Rio de Janeiro on an IL-96 government plane. From there, he planned to fly to the capital, Brasilia, to meet with Brazilian President Lula da Silva.

However, the plane was running out of kerosene and the Russian team asked the Brazilian operators to fill it up. However, they categorically refused – in order to avoid the secondary sanctions of the USA.

Lavrov was offered to fly as a “passenger” on the plane of Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, and another Russian plane will pick Lavrov up from the capital.

Later, however, Lavrov arrived in the capital of Brazil. He said that in the end the country’s authorities helped to refuel the plane for the meeting with the Brazilian president, and the refueling problems were because “there are almost no refueling companies in Brazil that are not owned by Western corporations.”

It is noteworthy that the kerosene problems are happening in a BRICS member country. A day earlier, it became known that the three largest banks of another BRICS country – China, have stopped operations with the Russian Federation, also fearing secondary US sanctions.
