The trends report for the first half of 2024, from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), indicates that El Salvador grew 157%, thus becoming the destinations with the highest tourism growth in Latin America.
According to WTTC data, it projects that El Salvador will be the one that will obtain the best results in the arrival of international tourists in the period from January to June of this year in Latin America.
These estimates coincide with the growth forecast of the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), which estimates that this year around 3.8 million foreign visitors will arrive in the country, a figure that would exceed the already historic number of arrivals in 2023, which was 3.4. million tourists, and that generated $3,793 million in foreign currency.
The analysis also mentions that Central America in general would be the subregion most favored by tourism trends this year, and places Nicaragua in second place for growth with 142%, followed by Guatemala with 42% and Costa Rica with 35%. %; while other large destinations such as Mexico and Colombia will grow by 31% and 23%, respectively. All when comparing their results from the first half of last year with the same period in 2019.
The WTTC attributes this Latin American boom to “an increase in passenger capacity by airlines, with the number of seats during the first half of this year exceeding 2019 levels by 16% during the same period, with 62.3 million seats ”.
In turn, it points out the United States, Canada, Mexico, Spain and Germany as “the most important source markets for the Latin American region.”
