A compromise at the last moment, just before the red button was pressed and everything was blown up, was reached late on Tuesday night at the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA – PS.
In fact, however, almost all top executives believe that now, after the dramatic events of the last four days, Stefanos Kasselakis is president under a deadline.
A milestone is the European elections, from the election result of which the president of SYRIZA-PS will be judged, but he asked that they declare that they support him until the national elections and be judged then. Something like he was asking for a “closed contract” like in the NBA, according to an apt observation by journalist and former MP Nikos Xydakis. Except that in the NBA, and especially in the USA, where he has spent most of his life to date, everyone is judged – and in fact – strictly guided by the results they bring. And there the first is first, the second nothing.
St. Kasselakis found yesterday a more stable and organized front against him in the General Assembly and the crucial thing was the change of attitude of Nikos Pappas who left the moderate line and openly joined the rest of the top executives who are against the deadline – as they themselves leak – president who even this quality of his is disputed.
And according to them, it could not have been otherwise after what happened and the provocation, as they say of St. Kasselakis who yesterday directly asked them even to challenge him and find an opponent.
Of course, as it was seen yesterday from the meeting, the opponent now exists and he is Dionysis Teboneras who also took up the burden of answering clearly to St. Kasselakis.
From what was said it was understood that the gap is unbridgeable. The distance is growing and in fact, in order to prevent a new split, on the eve of the conference, a truce was reached with arms rather than legs for the next battles.
After the ridiculous things that happened only as a joke, the announcement of the PG on mutual trust and support between the President and the members of the Political Secretariat.
In this theater of the absurd, an informal update was added on Wednesday morning under the title of restoring the truth:
- The stake of yesterday’s General Assembly was: “Reaffirmation of the confidence in the President of the General Assembly members or else recourse to the members”
The PG reaffirmed its trust and support in the person of the President and we move forward united to the Conference, which will be held on the basis of the positions as they were developed during the pre-conference dialogue. - Only one member of the PG asked to put the issue of revocation of the president’s letter to a vote and it was rejected by everyone in the PG.
