The Attorney General’s Office (PNC) reported that three gang members from Barrio 18 were sentenced to 15 years in prison each for extorting merchants from the municipality of Mejicanos.
The gang members were identified as Fernando José Zelaya Deleón, Ulises Saúl Benito Pineda and Jonathan Ernesto Santos Parada, sentenced for the crime of aggravated extortion.
According to FGR reports, these gang members forced merchants to pay them $70 weekly, in events that occurred during 2021.
In addition, the Prosecutor’s Office reported that the Sixth Sentencing Court of San Salvador was the one who declared them guilty of the crime of aggravated extortion.
