Coinciding with the call for employees of public administrations and institutions to go on a comprehensive strike yesterday, retired military personnel carried out a series of sit-ins in a number of Lebanese regions “to denounce the ignoring of their demands and to reject the blatant discrimination against public sector employees and retirees, both military and civilian,” according to a statement.
In the Bekaa, a number of retired military personnel demonstrated in front of public institutions, affirming their rejection of the unfair tax policy against all citizens. Groups of retired military personnel in Rashaya and the Western Bekaa also carried out a sit-in in front of the Rashaya Brigades, denouncing the government’s financial policy.
In Zahle, groups of civilian and military retirees from Zahle, the central Bekaa, Tamnen, and Qasranba gathered in front of the Zahle brigades, in protest against the financial and tax policy of the caretaker government and the lack of fairness to the retirees, while retirees of the Internal Security Forces carried out a sit-in in front of the Baalbek-Hermel Governorate building.
In Baalbek, groups of retirees from Baalbek (civilian and military) and its east and north carried out a sit-in in front of the Finance and Real Estate Building in Dorris near the Jabali roundabout, and another sit-in in front of the governorate center, to demand a review of the unfair tax policy for the rights of retirees.
In Tripoli, retired soldiers blocked the roads in front of the Tripoli Brigades and the Bank of Lebanon. The protesters stressed the need to fulfill the demands of all employees and retired military personnel, stressing their rejection of “blatant discrimination against public sector employees and retirees, both military and civilian.”
