Authorities in the Mexican state of Michoacán found 11 bodies in a mass grave on Tuesday, February 20. The bodies were in a state of decomposition and were taken to the morgue, local media reported.
The discovery occurred on a property near a dam in the municipality of Tarímbaro, where the presence of disturbed earth was detected. According to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), the place was used to carry out clandestine burials.
Specialized FGE workers went to the scene and verified that the bodies corresponded to four women and seven men. The bodies were taken to the Forensic Medical Service for autopsies, although so far, they have not been identified.
Background
On December 1 of last year, six lifeless bodies were found by residents of Tarímbaro in another property in the district. Two of the victims were minors.
Faced with the discovery of bodies, Mayor Bladimir González Gutiérrez expressed that the bodies do not correspond to his municipality, but that the situation is related to the proximity to Morelia and other towns. “The number of security and surveillance elements that we have in Tarímbaro does not mean that we can combat crimes or prevent them from taking the bodies there,” he said.
