What is the maximum invoice?
If your family’s medical costs reach a certain amount, any additional costs will be fully reimbursed by the health insurance fund. Only the medical costs that you still have to pay yourself after intervention by the mandatory health insurance (e.g. the co-payment is for your own account) are eligible.
The maximum amount is determined based on your income. The higher your family income, the higher the total maximum amount. The ceilings in 2024 will be between 254.99 euros and 2,067.66 euros. In any case, the maximum amount for children under the age of 19 is set at 746.66 euros per year in 2024, regardless of family income. Additional protection is also provided for chronically ill people.
Your health insurance fund keeps track of all your family’s medical costs. The costs for all family members are added together per year. If these costs exceed the maximum amount for that year, your health insurance fund will automatically reimburse all additional costs each month.
