Dacia Spring: The New Renault Kwid in Disguise – All You Need to Know About the Upgraded Model in 2021

When the Dacia Spring hit the market in 2021, it was clear to everyone that it was a Renault Kwid in disguise made in China and primarily intended for the Indian market. However, he ditched the kwid designer Spring coat with the upgrade and donned the Dacia Duster dress in a smaller ready-to-wear size.

You will also find a black strip at the back, which is followed by the headlights.

The specifics of the 3.7-meter-long car are the two black stripes at the front and at the back, which are followed by the daytime running lights, respectively the tail lamps. All this in the contemporary design of the letter Y. There are also decals and fifteen-inch alloy wheels for the highest Extreme version, also intended for outside the city.

The car has practical replaceable threshold covers, in addition, it lost the chrome strips and also the roof “carriers”, which were also non-functional and only reduced the range (aerodynamics). As for the body colors, there are a total of six, including beige and brick red paint.

Six paint colors will be available, including the brick red in the pictures.

Changes have also occurred inside, which is striking at first glance at the redesigned dashboard with colorful decors. It now hosts a raised central multimedia display of up to 10 inches (depending on equipment) and a customizable 7-inch digital instrument panel for all trims. In addition, native online navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless connectivity are available for higher equipment.

The rejuvenated Spring is also proud of a gadget called YouClip located on the dashboard and center console, i.e. a system that enables the safe mounting of accessories such as a storage pocket, a phone holder or even a flashlight.

The modernization is obvious at first glance and has definitely benefited Spring.

The vehicle also received (and it must be said mandatory like other Dacias) for example automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition with speeding warning, rear parking assistant, lane departure warning, lane keeping assistant, driver attention monitoring system and emergency call (eCall). The settings (switching off) can then be accessed with a shortcut using the “My Safety” button.

The car offers a trunk with a volume of 308 liters, i.e. 6% more than before. If the rear seats are folded, the volume increases to 1,004 liters. A new bonus is 35 liters of storage in the front, which is useful for example for charging cables.

Thanks to YouClip, you can securely hold, for example, a mobile phone holder.

The model with internal storage space of 33 liters in total will offer three basic equipment, where the starting Essential has a height-adjustable three-spoke steering wheel, power steering, basic multimedia with USB input, speed limiter, cruise control, radio control on the steering wheel, remote central locking, electric front windows , rear parking sensors or perhaps a 12V socket.

The Medium Expression will also offer manual climate control, or R15 alloy wheels for a more powerful design. The top-of-the-line Extreme then adds copper interior and exterior trim elements, power mirrors and rear windows, and larger multimedia.

The total volume of internal storage spaces is 33 liters.

You might be wondering if there will be a working version of Cargo? Yes, the manufacturer confirmed this worker on the flashlight. However, we will learn the details with some delay after the personal version.

It charges itself and your grill

After the facelift, Dacia Spring offers two engines. The basic 45-horsepower model returns, available for the first two trim levels and intended primarily for the city, as it takes a long 20 seconds to accelerate from zero to one hundred.

The more powerful version with 65 hp available for higher trims is a significantly more usable car that you can even dare to take on the highway, because it does 100 km/h in 14 seconds and the flexible acceleration is generally more brisk. The good news is that even at full throttle, the Spring is a light car, weighing in at 984 kilograms.

The model will offer two power variants, namely 45 and 65 hp.

A traction battery with the same capacity of 26.8 kWh (weight 186 kg) will provide the car with a standard consumption of 14.6 kWh/100 km in optimal conditions and a range of slightly over 220 km. It follows that in reality, and especially in winter, this number will be significantly lower, which the model predetermines for the city and its immediate surroundings.

And if there were some sharp descents in the city, the strong recuperation mode B, activated on the new movement direction controller, would come in handy.

Basically slow AC charging, optionally faster DC.

The fresh Dacia Spring is equipped as standard with a 7kW AC charger, which allows the battery to be charged from 20% to 100% using a home socket in less than 11 hours, or in 4 hours using a 7kW wallbox.

A 30kW DC charger is available for an extra charge, which enables fast charging from 20% to 80% in 45 minutes. For the very first time in history, Spring will be able to charge other electrical appliances (such as a grill) thanks to V2L (vehicle-to-load, 220 V/16 A) technology.

The manufacturer states that the Dacia Spring is an ideal compromise between utility value and price, however, the Czech price for the modernized version has not yet been published, we will know it only in the spring. Currently, the Spring is only sold here in Extreme equipment with a 65 hp engine for CZK 576,400 including VAT. But Spring prices should drop (not only thanks to weaker and less equipped versions), because competition is growing in this segment as well – for example, the electric Citroën ë-C3 promises a price tag of 575,000 crowns…

But it is also cheaper and already now. You can take advantage of the end of subsidies for electrics in Germany, you can buy a basic Spring with a 45 hp engine there for 14,390 euros with local 19% VAT, which is about 345,000 CZK. Entrepreneurs in the Czech Republic can also receive a subsidy for a car (more HERE), when the minimum purchase price of the car will be CZK 300,000, but conditional on a loan.
