Between January 15 and February 16, around 70 boys and girls were part of the 2024 Summer Schools, developed by the Municipality of Rancagua at the Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna and Virginia Bravo schools, located in the eastern and rural sectors of the capital of O’Higgins.
The initiative, carried out through an agreement with the Ministry of Social Development and Family, and with the support of the IND and JUNAEB, was aimed at boys and girls between 6 and 12 years old whose main caregivers were doing seasonal work, and They did not have an alternative care option.
In this regard, the director of Community Development (Dideco) of the Municipality of Rancagua, María Antonieta Toledo, highlighted that “Summer Schools are a collaborative agreement that we have with the Ministry of Social Development and Family, where they transfer resources to us to carry out these activities that ran from January 15 to February 16, with a total coverage of 70 boys and girls. , whom we welcomed during this summer time while their parents carried out productive seasonal work.”

For a month, the students developed new skills through music, storytelling, sports, dance and yoga workshops; In addition, they celebrated Friendship Day and had the opportunity to visit places such as the Mirador Interactive Museum (MIM) located in the Metropolitan region, the El Teniente Stadium and the Lourdes Sports Center pool, among others, with the aim of enjoying and generating ties during this vacation.
For Andrés Urdaneta Gil, a 12-year-old student who participated in the Summer School at the Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna School, the event “seemed very fun, the games, everything we did. They gave us a very good, very nice education. I thank all the teachers who helped us have fun.”
While Carolina Salas, manager of the Virginia Bravo School Summer School, stated that “I find it wonderful. I appreciate the doors that open for children, so that they can see places, new experiences and leave full of emotion. “They had a super entertaining vacation.”
