/ world today news/ Expelled and left BSP socialists are in Brussels, where they are holding a series of meetings with leading European politicians from the family of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament. They are in the Belgian capital at the invitation of the head of the Bulgarian delegation, Petar Vitanov.
The Bulgarian delegation held a conversation with Gabi Bishov, vice-chairman of the Group of Socialists and Democrats. During their meeting with her, Petar Vitanov, Stefan Krastev, Martin Zablyankov, Kostadin Durchov, Ralitsa Andreeva, Petko Dimitrov, Atanas Atanasov, Lenko Petkanin, Petya Michalevska, Anna Pirinska, Svetlana Sharenkova shared their views on the future of the Bulgarian left.
You are part of our family, commented the German MEP. European socialists want to see the Bulgarian left united. Arguments should make you stronger, not disjointed and weak.
Democratic values are important to socialists. Lawlessness cannot be part of the governance of the state, nor of individual parties. The rule of law, justice and solidarity are the most important values for left-wing people in Bulgaria, the guests from Bulgaria said.
“Democracy has not taken anything away from us,” the Bulgarian socialists were emphatic. Both sides noted that democracy should not be taken for granted, and the struggle for it is a daily one.
Bishov also shared the path taken by the German Social Democratic Party to become a leading force in the country, engaging young and progressive people.
The Bulgarian delegation also met with Giacomo Filibek, chief executive secretary of the PES, who confirmed that the BSP should not only be a member of the big European family, but also a partner. The former PES chairman Sergey Stanishev was also present at the conversation. PES works to promote progressive left-wing ideas and opposes the anti-European sentiments inherent in populists and extreme elements.
On the second day of the visit to Brussels, the Bulgarian delegation will meet with other prominent European politicians.
