/ world today news/ The great Bulgarian artist Svetlin Rusev died. One of the most prominent native artists of the 20th and 21st centuries died at home at the age of 84.
Artist, public figure, collector of works of art academician of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and ex national representativeSvetlin Rusev graduated in painting under one of the greatest masters of contemporary Bulgarian painting – Professor Dechko Uzunov.
Winner of numerous national and international awardsfrom 1973 to 1985. Rusev is Chairman of the Union of Bulgarian Artists, after which he became the director of the National Art Gallery. Actively participates in public and political life, representative in five national assemblies. He is remembered for a number of solo exhibitions in Sofia, Moscow, Leningrad, Mexico, Budapest, Warsaw, Bucharest, Berlin and Vienna.
A few days ago, an exhibition with the works of 25 artists was opened in Pleven, personally arranged by Academician Svetlin Rusev.
As of now the artist’s works are exhibited in the National Art Gallery in Sofia and are part of many art galleries and private collections at home and abroad. He is the author of dozens of panels and murals, including in the National Palace of Culture and Vanga’s church “Saint Petka Bulgarska” in Rupite.
On June 14, Svetlin Rusev would have turned 85 years old.
Here’s what he said in an interview with Nova TV in 2016: “Personally, of my death I can feel no fear, because I can’t escape it anyway. The only fear I feel is the chaos I can leave and the unfinished business. Because there are things that you always think should be finished, but they are not finished”.
The Prime Minister wrote to the family and relatives of Svetlin Rusev: “Bulgaria has lost one of its sages! A genius artist before whom the whole world bowed, he did not remain in the ideal world of art. Svetlin Rusev was one of the few people who tugged at our conscience and did not let it sleep. He did this with a kindness that showed love to man and spurred him to do good. He was great and will remain great. I mourn with you and thank you for the good fortune and happiness of having known him. A tribute to his eternal memory!”
