Hannover – A company wants to invest a total of 300 million euros in fiber optic connections in Lower Saxony in the coming years. This means that up to 300,000 new connections will be created by 2030, as the digitalization minister announced at the request of the German Press Agency in Hanover.
An agreement is to be signed between the state, Vodafone and OXG Glasfaser GmbH on Tuesday afternoon. OXG Glasfaser GmbH is a cooperation between the two companies Vodafone and Altice.
The state and OXG therefore agreed that around 20 percent of addresses that were not previously covered by fiber optics would be included in the expansion program. In addition, the existing connection quality in the country is to be increased through more than 100 modernization measures.
According to the ministry, almost half of the households in Lower Saxony have a fiber optic connection. In terms of bandwidth, reliability and energy consumption, fiber optic networks significantly outperform previous copper networks.
