Biathlon: Mona Brorsson retires after the season

Brorsson finished in 21st place in the ladies’ mass start. The 33-year-old tells SVT Sport that she chooses to end her career after the season.

– I will run the season. It’s been a decision I’ve been mulling over for quite some time. It is time to hang up the rifle, says Brorsson.

During her career, she has picked up two Olympic medals (gold and silver), one WC medal (silver) and three European Championship golds.

The announcement was made to the national team mates on Saturday evening – and many are affected by Brorsson’s departure from the sport.

– It’s really sad. She has been the mother of the team all the way. The work she has done for the team is difficult to describe, says a teary-eyed Elvira Öberg.

– It is very special. We are all very moved. Mona has been with me from the beginning. She is the glue that holds us together, says a moved Hanna Öberg.
