Swimming: Sarah Sjöström wins her fourth WC gold in the 50 m freestyle

The gold medals continue to rain down on Sarah Sjöström.

Three WC golds and an Olympic silver in the 50 m freestyle on a long course before.

Then Sarah Sjöström secured her fourth WC gold in a time of 23.69, in Doha.

It was her second WC gold in two days, as yesterday she secured the sixth straight WC gold in the 50 m butterfly.

– That was incredible. It was a fast race with three girls under 24 seconds. I enjoyed myself, I came in with confidence and was looking forward to the race, says Sjöström.

– It’s extra nice to feel that I’m doing what I’m supposed to, regardless of how fast the girls next to me are. Great to get it with you before the Olympics this summer.

Double again, how proud are you?

– I knew it would be really tough today. All the girls were under 24 seconds, it was nice to have that opportunity to race against that opposition. It will give a lot ahead of the year that I can manage it.

Michelle Coleman finished last in the final and the American Kate Douglass took the silver while the Polish Katarzyna Wasick secured the bronze.

In total, Sjöström has won 14 WC gold medals in long track, and a total of 23 individual medals.
