In the Tokai region, it is expected that there will be localized areas with heavy rain tonight. From now on, there will be many cloudy and rainy days due to moist air and a stationary front. The warm days will last until tomorrow the 20th, and it looks like the winter cold will return. The mountainous areas of Gifu Prefecture need to be careful about snowfall again.

Watch out for rain tonight

Today, the 19th, is “Rain Water”, one of the 24 solar terms. It means when the weather gets warmer, snow turns to rain, and ice melts to turn into water. As per the calendar, it was a warm morning this morning, and even though it was raining during the day, the temperature was relatively high.

The Tokai region continues to be in a state where warm, humid air easily enters from the south. Rainfall over the 24-hour period up to 3:00 PM today, the 19th, was observed to be over 50mm in some places, mainly in the mountainous areas of Gifu and Shizuoka prefectures.

Tonight, the inflow of moist air is expected to strengthen and the front is expected to move southward over the Tokai region. As the atmospheric conditions become unstable, rain clouds may develop and locally heavy rain showers may occur. As the wind continues to be strong from the south, we also need to be careful about the sideways rain. Temperatures will continue to remain high, and the mountainous areas of Gifu Prefecture are expected to experience rain instead of snow. Rain will continue in many places until late tonight, after which it will gradually ease from the west.

Unseasonably warm weather will continue until tomorrow the 20th

Tomorrow, the 20th, the front will temporarily move south, so although there will be a lot of clouds, there will be some areas where the weather will return to sunny skies. In particular, in Shizuoka Prefecture, where there is warm air, there is a lot of sunlight, so the temperature is likely to rise sharply.
The highest temperature tomorrow, the 20th, is expected to be 24℃ in Shizuoka City (Suruga Ward), 23℃ in Hamamatsu City, and 20℃ in Nagoya City (Chikusa Ward). In some parts of Shizuoka Prefecture, it can get hot and sweaty when you move, so we recommend wearing clothes that are easy to adjust.

[February Highest Temperature Ranking]

There are many warm days this February, with some places experiencing unseasonably warm weather tomorrow, the 20th.
Looking at the highest temperature in February so far, Shizuoka City (Suruga Ward) ranked first on February 14, 2009, with a summer day of 26.2℃. . On the other hand, Nagoya City (Chikusa Ward) has never observed a summer day, but it ranked first with a temperature of 23.5℃ on February 14, 2016. In February, winter and spring come and go, and there are times when we observe temperatures similar to early summer.
The unseasonably warm weather is causing the snow to melt in the mountains where there is a lot of snow. This is the season when we need to continue to be careful about snow melting disasters such as avalanches and landslides.

Temperature suddenly drops from the 21st (Wednesday) after a change from warmth

From the 21st (Wednesday), the temperature will drop rapidly and the cold will return. From the three-day weekend until the beginning of the week, cold air is expected to flow in, bringing winter cold and snow to the mountainous regions of Gifu Prefecture. The strength of the cold air still varies, so be sure to check the latest weather and temperature information. Please take measures such as getting enough sleep to avoid getting sick due to the temperature difference.

Second half of 2 week weather: 27th (Tuesday) – March 3rd (Sunday)

After the 27th (Tuesday), the weather will change every few days, and there will be some sunny days, especially in areas on the Pacific side. The maximum temperature is unlikely to drop below 10℃ in the plains. Temperatures are expected to be around or slightly below normal, with no extremely warm or cold days.
