This Sunday’s game between Serpa and Moncarapachense, from Series D of the Portuguese Championship, was marked by an unusual situation: in the 20th minute, referee Gonçalo Pereira (Santarém) asked the home team to wear vests, to distinguish their equipment. of the two emblems that were similar.
The fact is that the players’ numbers were not visible with their vests on, which according to the regulations allows teams to protest the game. According to what we learned, Moncarapachense, 2nd in the series, two points behind leader V. Setúbal, actually decided to go ahead with this protest at the end of the match, informing the FPF delegate of this. Serpa won the game 2-1, thus consolidating 9th place in the table.
There was no need
Record heard Mauro Santos, Serpa’s coach, who did not agree with the decision and revealed: “I gave the players peace of mind and the idea that they would assume it was training.” For the Alentejo helmsman, “the back of the shirts and the shorts were completely different” and therefore “this decision was unnecessary”.
Playing at home, it was up to the Alentejo team to change equipment, but Serpa already presented the alternative and, for Mauro Santos, “the main thing was still more similar to the opponent’s”. For the coach, the ideal would have been an agreement before the game: “If the issue had been raised earlier, Moncarapachense could have brought their alternative, who is black, and this would have been avoided.”
Still on this unusual issue, the coach remembers that the rigor was not for everyone: “Their goalkeeper was wearing black and therefore he should have also played with a vest, as the refereeing team was also wearing black”, he pointed out.
