The authorities of the province of Cienfuegos have carried out an exemplary trial in which the murderer of a farmer in the town of Juraguá, in the municipality of Abreus, was sentenced to life imprisonment.
According to the official Caribbean Channelthe Court of Cienfuegos imposed the sentence after the subject, whose name was not revealed, was found guilty of the murder.
It is important to note that, while the name of the victim was not disclosed by the Cuban news, the fact that this took place in Juraguá while the farmer defended his animals suggests which is the case of Yordany Díazwhich was not reported by the state press and was replicated only by independent media.
This incident was recorded at the beginning of 2023, and was reported by Internet user Alejo Bermúdez, who indicated that the criminals were surprised while dismembering one of Díaz’s cows, and did not hesitate to end the man’s life.
“This farmer, only 42 years old, was vilely murdered by unscrupulous criminals who want to live off the sacrifice of others. Without shaking their hands they slaughtered him because he saw them dismembering his cow. This changed the lives of all of his family and friends,” he denounced on that occasion.
Ariday Arteaga Fonseca, criminal instructor of the Cienfuegos Criminal Unit, told Caribbean Channel that investigations by the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) demonstrated the involvement of four people in the crime of theft and illegal slaughter of livestock, one of whom was accused of committing the murder.
The provincial prosecutor Yaranaicy Figueredo Muñoz indicated that the three who were charged only with theft and sacrifice were evaluated individually, “taking into account that their crime affects only the economic order of the nation,” for which lesser sentences were imposed. .
It should be emphasized that, although this clarification was made, the report does not specify what these minor sanctions were or the names of those convicted.
Díaz’s case is not the only one reported on the Island, since the theft and slaughter of livestock has become a crime that affects more and more farmers throughout the countryalthough the main problem is the violence that accompanies this practice.
