The red alert continues due to fires and low flow of the Cesar River

The Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideam) reported this Sunday that the department of Cesar continues to be on red alert due to the high probability of forest fires due to the high temperatures generated by the El Niño phenomenon in the Caribbean and Andean regions.

According to the head of the Departmental Disaster Risk Management Office, Petra Romero, as of February 18, “only a single fire has been reported in the municipality of El Copey, in the El Pekín village, and it is being controlled by firefighters and farmers in the area.”

Another of the affected territories has been La Paz, exactly the upper part of the San José de Oriente district, where an aircraft sent by the Crisis Room of the National Risk Management Unit, as well as firefighters, arrived to attend to the conflagration that affected the vegetal layer of the area and which was liquidated last Friday.

HUMAN ACTIONS THAT INCREASE THE PROBABILITY OF FIRES

Despite the relationship between fires and the El Niño phenomenon, the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development has indicated that human actions increase the possibility of these variations in ecosystems.

Some of them are: burning garbage, unattended bonfires; glass containers, cigarette butts and matches thrown in forest environments and deforestation for livestock and agriculture.

“CITEL (Central Information and Telecommunications) informs us that there is low flow in the Cesar River and high temperatures in all the municipalities of the swampy complex,” Romero confirmed to EL PILÓN.

The drought in rivers and reservoirs is also a product of the decrease in rainfall this season, which affects the supply of drinking water for the population and the irrigation of crops.

This publishing house tried to talk to Adriana García, the director of the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cesar (Corpocesar) to find out how they are regulating the permits for the use of water and the care of this vital source of 280 kilometers in length, but until the publication of There were no responses to this news.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Minambiente’s recommendations for this season are: make efficient use of water, that is, repair leaks in the home, use technology with savings, do not waste the liquid in daily activities and store it in safe containers to supply, but prevent the presence of the mosquito that causes dengue.
