Skull and Bones Game Review: Pros, Cons, and Why You Shouldn’t Buy It

Game Skull and Bones Game successor Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, which gained great popularity thanks to its rich marine world and fun hacking system. Skull and Bones game was developed and published by UbisoftIt was revealed for the first time at E3 2017, but the beginning of its development dates back to 2013, when it was initially considered an addition (DLC) to Black Flag. Over time, the idea evolved into an independent game with a broader scope. Here is a review and rating of Skull and Bones.

Despite the ambition that characterized this project, it faced several development challenges, which led to its repeated postponement more than six times, and with each new postponement, concerns increased among players about the extent of the game’s success and its ability to achieve expectations. So did the game manage to live up to expectations and outperform its predecessor? Or did it fail, as players believe, due to its repeated postponements?

  • Skull and Bones game, in which you assume the role of a pirate in the Indian Ocean at the end of the seventeenth century, the golden age of piracy, where you have to prove yourself as a pirate, survive and thrive in a world full of naval battles, exploration, and plundering settlements.
  • The game does not have a specific story, but it has a simple narrative that is influenced by your choices and the choices of other players in a multiplayer online world.
  • The game belongs to the PvE type, i.e. (Player versus Environment), where you ally with other players in a server that includes 20 players to resist enemies or difficulties that you face in the game, but you cannot attack other players in the server, except by engaging in some few PvP activities. , which is only available in advanced stages of the game
  • In Skull and Bones, you can fully customize your ship in terms of weapons, decorations, shape and size. The game gives you great freedom to choose what suits you.
  • Your ship has four sides, and on each side is a platform to place your weapon. You can use any type of weapon, be it cannons, spears, etc., and it doesn’t matter where you place it, all sides accept all weapons of your choice.
  • You can purchase or upgrade your gear and equipment by visiting pirate havens such as St. Anne’s Island, ruled by the Pirate King Scurlock. You can also use Fast Travel only through islands to move between other islands, but you have to pay a fee for that.
  • To purchase or upgrade your gear and equipment better, you need to find scrolls containing crafting instructions. You can obtain these scrolls by completing quests or contracts for merchants, artisans, or other characters, or you can find them otherwise through treasures buried on the islands.
  • The combat system in the game is through your ship only, and not with your character and your ship as in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. You also don’t participate in robbing other ships yourself, you send your crew to do so. By simply pressing the button, your crew will teleport to the target ship and end the battle in less than a moment. This is different from Black Flag, where you would disembark from your ship and fight with your sword to control enemy ships.
  • Naval combat in the game presents you with a somewhat challenge, because you need to navigate your huge ship and use your weapons wisely due to the re-trimming of weapons that forces you to turn your huge ship to use another weapon from another side, taking into account natural factors such as wind, waves, and the fatigue that affects your crew.
  • The ship customization was greatas it gives you great freedom to modify and equip it according to your needs and preferences, giving you the opportunity to create a completely unique experience that suits your playing style.
  • The naval battle experience in the game was very fun and exciting. The combat system provided a dynamic and diverse gaming experience, especially during the night with thunderstorms and the raging sea waves and winds, which added a kind of realism that made you feel as if you were driving a real ship.
  • All game content has been translated into Arabic accurately and in the correct formatincluding menus, texts, and dialogues, and although there were some errors in the formatting of the dialogue lines, they were good.
  • The loading screens were very annoying, They were excessively frequent and very repetitive, as whenever I did any activity, I would find myself facing a loading screen. Whether you’re getting off your ship, interacting with an NPC, digging for treasure, or crafting or purchasing something you’ll see a loading screen.
  • Is a pirate unable to swim, dive, or even fight?! This is the question that made me wonder whether or not I was really playing a pirate game. Where are the ship robberies? Where is the fighting? Where is the freedom of movement? Is this an open world game or a linear one, where you can’t dive, swim, or even fight with your crew to control a ship like in Black Flag? In addition, there is no freedom of movement within your ship, as you only have to disembark in certain areas of the map, and not all islands can be landed or explored, which restricts your movement and wandering.
  • During my first hour, the game left me frustrated and disappointed by its lack of content and frustrating progression, and excessive repetition that made the game extremely boring. Additionally, the mission design was very poor, with almost all missions having the same idea and devoid of any excitement or variety.
  • The game world was actually quite huge, and yet, it was very poor; The game provided a wide space for roaming and exploration, but it did not exploit it well, as the world was devoid of important interactions and events, so that you could only see the ocean everywhere!
  • The story was almost non-existent, The narrative information was scarce and did not provide a rich or inspiring experience.
  • Technical performance was very poor at timesThe game ran well at times and very poorly at other times, with excessive frame rate drops in some cases, and the game closing on its own.

I do not advise you to buy the Skull and Bones game unless it is on a huge sale, it is not worth the price, as the value you will get with the high purchase amount will be useless, so it may be better to buy anything else, even if it is food, or instead You can try Sea of Thieves, which provides you with a wonderful pirate experience with exploration and story. Or you can play Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag which is one of the best pirate games ever.

Acceptable

Unfortunately, Skull and Bones is not the perfect successor to Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag that we were hoping for. The game let me down with a lack of content, an empty open world, and repetitive and boring missions that give me no feeling of hacking. Simply put, it is just a dull imitation of hacking without any soul. Or fun, and this made me wonder, was it really developed over 10 years and not just one year?
