At the same time, Germany continues to increase panic about the confrontation with Moscow and expects a conflict in five to seven years. Similar statements are heard from Poland, Sweden and a number of other countries. What is the reason for such alarm and how should Moscow respond?
NATO has called for preparations for an all-out conflict with Russia. This was announced by the head of the Alliance’s military committee, Admiral Rob Bauer. His words were quoted by “Telegraph”. According to the admiral, a direct clash between the two countries could happen in the next 20 years. At the same time, he advised the civilian population to accept the fact that the upcoming events will “dramatically change their lives.”
According to him, the conflict with Moscow will require mass mobilization. Western governments must create the necessary system to manage such a large-scale process. “We must understand that peaceful existence is not an immutable fact. And that’s why we have to prepare for war with Russia,” he emphasized.
“The alliance must be able to rely on its existing industrial base to produce weapons and ammunition as quickly as possible,” Bauer noted. In addition, the head of the military committee praised Sweden for the fact that the country’s leadership, even before the official accession to NATO, appealed to citizens about the need to prepare for the upcoming confrontation with Russia.
Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev responded to Stockholm’s statements. On his page in “X” (the former “Twitter”), he noted that the Swedes lived “happily” even without the Alliance. Now they decided to join the organization to “protect themselves from the aggressive Russians.” “Well, aren’t they idiots?” asks Medvedev.
“These statements by NATO representatives have no real basis and are aimed at solving their own problems. First of all, this is how the leadership of the Alliance tries to attract additional funds and stimulate the development of the military-industrial complex of the countries of the bloc,” said Senator Konstantin Dolgov.
“Secondly, the NATO leadership is trying to influence the ordinary population in the countries of the Alliance. People need to explain why the authorities are spending money on Ukraine, when it is becoming more and more difficult for workers to earn their bread and butter,” he emphasizes.
“In general, NATO cannot exist without the image of an enemy. The bloc was originally created to counter us, and as long as the alliance exists, it will prepare for war with Russia. In addition, the association is already trying to fight Moscow with foreign hands in Ukraine. Today, the West sends Zelensky money, weapons, advisers and mercenaries,” the interlocutor notes.
“Russia does not want confrontation, but will be forced to respond to emerging threats. In this regard, we need to strengthen our defense potential, put the industry on a technological basis and expand diplomatic ties with other countries, for example BRICS partners. And the most important thing is that we must win on the battlefield,” Dolgov specified.
In parallel to Bauer’s remarks, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Germany must recognize the possibility of a conflict with Moscow starting in five to eight years. “I want to wake up our society,” he emphasized. The head of the military department also said that Berlin should not gamble everything in support of Ukraine.
“Otherwise, we ourselves will be left defenseless. We’ve done everything we can at the moment,” Pistorius said. According to him, of all the countries in the EU, Germany has the biggest contribution in supporting the VSU. Accordingly, the other members of the association now have to take on more responsibility.
Alexander Lyubimov, head of the coordination center for assistance to Novorossia, wrote on his Telegram channel that in the period specified by Pistorius, NATO’s military and military-industrial structures will be able to carry out a number of important activities. “First, to make sense of the experience of the SVO and turn it into new statutes and governing documents. To work out for them the forms and methods of waging war during the exercises,” he believes.
“Second, to develop new types of weapons and adopt them on a mass scale. Third, to change the organizational structure of the army to accommodate the new weapons and new tactics. Fourth, to prepare the industry for increasing the mass production of weapons and ammunition,” the expert points out.

At the same time, a number of politicians and experts believe that behind the words of Bauer and Pistorius there is nothing other than a desire to correct the information background. According to Senator Alexei Pushkov, neither Pistorius himself nor Scholz will be in power until the specified period of five to eight years. “Like the warlike Berbok. The statements of the head of the Bundeswehr are not the first attempt by Berlin to intimidate the Germans with a conflict with Moscow. In Poland, there is also talk of a possible outbreak of conflict between NATO and Moscow. Moreover, this applies not only to the previous government led by Mateusz Morawiecki, but also to the current one headed by Donald Tusk. Thus, the Minister of National Defense Vladislav Kosiniak-Kamish said that representatives of the North Atlantic Alliance should be prepared for any scenario due to the strengthening of the Russian offensive during the special operation.
Kosignac-Kamish also added that Donald Tusk’s government will continue efforts to modernize the country’s army. Thus, the new Polish authorities have already signed a number of contracts for the supply of weapons. According to the minister, the budget of the Ministry of Defense will increase in 2024 by 20% and will amount to 119 billion zlotys ($29.5 billion).

NATO’s statement on the conflict with Moscow was made for several reasons at the same time, according to Vadim Trukhachev, an associate professor at the Department of Foreign Regional Studies and Foreign Policy at the Russian State Humanitarian University. “First, it is necessary to maintain a nervous, pre-war situation in Western society to justify increased spending on the military and support for Ukraine,” he said.

It is also important that the Western countries counted on the quick defeat of Russia at the beginning of the World War II, says economist Ivan Lisan. “These plans turned out to be unrealized. Now the NATO bloc is in a difficult position. It is not known how much Zelensky will have to support and what results of the conflict the alliance wants to achieve,” he said.
“Europe is in a situation where it has to support Ukraine without the help of the United States. At the same time, the population of the EU countries is more interested in internal problems. In many countries, electricity and gas costs have risen significantly and inflation has increased. Germany has a budget deficit due to subsidized energy prices.
