City’s miscalculation – dropped points against Chelsea

The reigning Premier League champions were unrecognizable at the Etihad. Chelsea were the better team in the first half and had several goals.

Nicolas Jackson burned a great chance when he came free against Ederson, but the finish was of poorer quality.

Just before half time should the goal go to the away team. Raheem Sterling, who has spent several seasons at Manchester City, gave Chelsea the lead in the 42nd minute. A goal that left home manager Pep Guardiola absolutely furious with his own team and judging by the television images, there were no words of encouragement coming from the Spaniard’s mouth.

But City played themselves up and pushed for an equalizing goal – and in the end, Spaniard Rodri stepped forward, as so many times before.

The midfielder received the ball just outside the penalty area and went ahead with a shot that was directed via defender Axel Disasi and into the goal.

Erling Haaland had the chance to score the winning goal for City in the 90th minute, but the Norwegian’s header was easily saved by goalkeeper Dorde Petrovic and the game ended 1–1.

The result means that Liverpool continues to top the table on 57 points, two ahead of Arsenal and four ahead of City, who have a game less played.

Chelsea are tenth on 35 points after 25 games.
