Apple is actively investing in the implementation of AI technologies on the iPhone and other devices. Earlier there was news that the company is developing AI-based solutions for manipulating and animating static images. Now there are reports that Apple is also creating AI tools for developers to help them write code for different applications in Xcode, and is also considering the use of AI in Spotlight Search.
According to Bloomberg, Apple is working to introduce AI capabilities into a new version of Xcode so that developers can use the technology when writing code. If you’re a programmer, you’re probably familiar with Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot tool, which allows you to generate code based on text queries. Apple appears to be moving in the same direction.
The company appears to be following industry trends by offering tools that are already on the market. However, the end use of the technology may vary. For example, Apple may introduce advanced image editing tools in iOS 18 this fall, giving the ability to not only process and modify them, but also animate them. For now, these are just speculations, and we will see the first demos of the technology at WWDC this summer.
When it comes to AI integration in Xcode, we’re talking about the ability to predict and suggest code to developers to speed up work. However, Apple plans to make the technologies available for use not only in Xcode, but also for third-party developers later this year. In addition, the company intends to develop AI for automatic testing of application code.
In addition to code generation tools, Apple is also considering improving the functionality of Spotlight Search – search on iPhone, iPad and Mac, which allows you to search for any content on the gadget. The updated Spotlight Search will be based on the company’s large language model and will potentially be able to perform more complex tasks, possibly using third-party applications.
There is no information yet whether the company will introduce a new Spotlight with the release of iOS 18 – according to sources, Apple is still only considering this feature as part of its desire to integrate AI into various aspects of the platform.
