On Thursday night, SYRIZA counted two abstentions and one “present” in the voting of the same-sex marriage bill, while all other MPs voted positively.
The documentonews.gr had revealed since yesterday morning that Pavlos Polakis would be absent. The abstention of the Member of State, Othonas Iliopoulos, can be described as a surprise, while “present” on the principle and a positive vote on certain articles was chosen by the second Piraeus Member of Parliament, Nina Kasimati, who throughout the previous period did not hide her concern about the controversial bill.

“Kyriako Mitsotakis, did you catch me in your mouth again??? DON’T LOOK FOR ME!! I have a job and a very serious one that saves lives. If you can tell from the photos that’s fine, otherwise ask them to explain what I did. The patient is my relative” wrote Pavlos Polakis yesterday afternoon, also posting four photos from the hospital.
“Let’s see if anyone will stay away from you and if eventually the interest turns to you and Mr. Polakis and to deletions. We do not threaten deletions. I said openly that this bill cannot be passed only with the vote of the ND…” the prime minister had said a little earlier.
Late last night, in a lengthy post, the member of parliament from Crete stated: “The objections and concerns I have regarding the controversial civil marriage equality bill mainly concern the extension of rights, through European Law, to procreation and the right to have children through surrogacy. I think that any legal issues that existed could be solved by expanding what is provided for in the cohabitation agreement,” he wrote, among other things, stressing that “sexual orientation cannot separate our fellow human beings” and that it has nothing to do with “extreme right-wing religious people ” and “darkening”.

Adonis Georgiadis through X spoke of “a huge lie by Polakis”, since as he said, the Cretan MP “invoked a surgery he had two days ago for his absence from today’s vote in Parliament”.
“Read the statement I made a while ago, bro. At the time your boss spoke about me I was in the Clinic dealing with this patient. I made the post to show that I have a job and you don’t!!!” Pavlos Polakis answered him.

“From now on we move forward with a modern society, a modern Greece” said Stefanos Kasselakis at the LGBTI+ club at midnight yesterday where he celebrated the passing of the bill. The SYRIZA president was in Gazi with his husband Tyler, with nightclub patrons applauding him and rushing to take pictures with him.
Yesterday, Stefanos Kasselakis had said at the Political Secretariat that there would be “consequences” for anyone who did not vote for the bill, while yesterday he sent a letter to SYRIZA MPs, saying among other things that “abstention is for the Borides”.
In the wells of SYRIZA yesterday, it was almost a given that Pavlos Polakis would be deposed as the coordinator of the Departmental Heads. It remains to be seen if the explanations given by the MP will finally convince the president of SYRIZA not to impose political sanctions on him.
“In a bill where dozens of MPs differed, it’s really funny that the noise is made again about my own position. The attempted attempt to hurt SYRIZA will fall on deaf ears. And of course it remains to be seen whether there will be developments for Othonas Iliopoulos (former head of Foreign Affairs) and Nina Kasimati (head of Migration Policy).
