The Emirates Team topped the podium in two races, with Juan Ayuso taking second place in the 4.5km time trial in the Vuelta a Andalusia, while Rui Oliveira took second place in the third stage of the Vuelta a Algarve.
Ayuso ranked second in this stage, and in the final general classification as well, after the race was ended due to a lack of police personnel, due to farmers’ strikes in the region.
The young Spanish cyclist set off quickly just 10 seconds before the end of the stage, following race winner Maxime van Gils (Team Lotto Destiny), on the short track that started and ended in Alcudetti with a length of 4.5 km.
It is worth noting that Tim Wellens ranked fifth, and Marc Soler ranked eighth in the top ten list, and thus the Emirates team was the strongest.
Ayuso says: “It was always difficult, because the time trial is very short, but I can be happy with second place, and we wanted to run more races this week, but unfortunately the situation is out of our control. I think I will have to wait a little longer to complete the first.” “The Vuelta of Andalusia, I am excited to participate in the upcoming races in the Ardeche Classic in France next weekend.”
Rui Oliveira came close to achieving victory on his home soil, with his second place behind Wout van Aert (Visma Lab) in the third stage of the “Vueltae Algarve”, where the Portuguese cyclist managed to time his start well, but the Belgian cyclist outperformed him slightly.
“If you lose to a rider like Van Aeret, you can’t be too disappointed,” Oliveira says. “I almost took advantage of the start to win, so I can be happy with that. I had a good race, and I realized that I had to wait as long as possible to start.” “I couldn’t have done anything else, so I have no regrets today.”
