Speaking in the Parliament, Thanos Pleuris expressed his disagreement with the bill for equality in the marriage of same-sex couples, while hinting that he will abstain from voting.
Initially, Mr. Pleuris pointed out: “I cannot vote because it is a matter of conscience, how you yourself endure and recognize your political role. I cannot vote for the provisions, but I will nevertheless choose a position that will not give anyone the right to take advantage of my disagreement for petty political reasons.
Today is a historic meeting as we will discuss an intense social issue. I decided that as a member of parliament I had to take the floor to express my disagreement on principle, a disagreement of values and not of homophobic delusion. And we will not give this disagreement to extreme people.”
Then addressing Kyriakos Velopoulos he said: “To have a party leader who calls for MPs to say if he is gay or not? Is it possible to say such things? And that dissent is voiced by these people? No no”.

Continuing his position he stated: “Same-sex children are not in danger of going to an institution, the biological parent has the right to indicate who they want to be a commissioner. But is there an issue with them growing up with two parents, one of whom is biological? Yes there is. I don’t want to recognize a family with 2 fathers or 2 mothers. The child will have a parent, the partner may love him very much but the matter of the parents is not numerical.
A child needs a father and a mother. The bill does not adopt the woke agenda. For ND, what is happening today is important.
