The UAE won a silver medal in the Abu Dhabi Classic 2024 Show Skating Cup, which is being held in Zayed Sports City, with the participation of 105 male and female players from 15 countries, sponsored by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Winter Sports Federation, and continues until February 18.
The tournament includes morning and evening shows, in which international champions participate, and “gala” shows, among the contestants crowned in first places.
The Abu Dhabi Ice Sports Club held the official opening ceremony, attended by Hamad Obaid Al Sheriani, Executive Director of the Club, and Hamel Ahmed Al Qubaisi, Vice President of the Winter Sports Federation.
The first day witnessed 19 performances, with Georgian Nikol Fadeeva achieving first place in the morning competitions for beginners with “46.71 points,” followed by Kuwaiti Lizbeth Ta with “41.67 points,” and Lydmila Zykova from Kazakhstan with “39.97 points.”
The evening competitions witnessed 18 performances at the beginner-advanced level, and Uzbekistan’s Latifakhon won first place (44.72 points), followed by Emirati Marina Makarenko (44.55 points).
In the advanced level competitions, Kazakhstan’s female players dominated the top three places: Krita Sheina (93.57 points), Valaria Nam (89.58 points), and Edemi Kunsbi (86.86 points).
The competitions will conclude on Sunday with Emirati participation in freestyle skating, the participation of the highest professional level in show skating, and the crowning of the winners.
Hamad Obaid Al-Sheriani, Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Ice Sports Club, said that the Abu Dhabi Classic 2024 Figure Skating Cup is included in the club’s annual agenda, appreciating the Abu Dhabi Sports Council’s continued support for holding sports tournaments in Abu Dhabi, to stimulate and encourage local talent, and to compete with international players with experience in this field. Sports, stressing that competitions represent an opportunity to exchange sporting experiences between athletes in an atmosphere filled with tolerance, coexistence and sportsmanship. We also aim for Abu Dhabi’s name to be on the list of international competitions in the International Ski Federation.
