Already after the first round at the Riviera Country Club in California, Tiger Woods told us that his back was cramping during the last holes.
When Woods picked himself up again on Friday, it wasn’t long before he broke the competition. The 48-year-old did indeed roll in a birdie directly on the first hole, but when he had teed off on the seventh an hour or so later, it was game over.
“Had a bit of a fever”
Woods was seen getting a lift in a golf cart after throwing in the towel. On the night of Saturday Swedish time, his business partner Rob McNamara states that the golf star felt crass before Friday’s round.
– He had a bit of a fever and so on and felt better during the warm-up. But when the game started, he started to feel dizzy, says McNamara.
Called ambulance caused concern
The arrival of an ambulance at the racetrack’s clubhouse caused some concern among fans. But according to McNamara, Woods should already be on the mend.
– The doctors say that he may have been affected by the flu and that he was dehydrated. He has received a drip bag and is now doing much, much better.
Wood’s hope for this comeback was to be able to play one competition a month in the future.
For Ludvig Åberg, the second round of the Los Angeles competition was a disappointment. The Swede was in joint tenth place after the first round, but after 72 strokes in the second has now slipped down to 31st place, which he shares with, among others, world second Rory McIlroy. The Swede is eleven strokes behind Patrick Cantlay, who leads by five strokes after 64 and 65 strokes.
