Tragedy Strikes: Man Dies in Bronx Apartment Fire, Woman Clings to Life

A man died in an early morning fire that destroyed an apartment in the Bronx (NYC) and left a woman seriously injured and several people homeless..

According to FDNY officials, the fire broke out on the 2nd floor of the three-story building located on East 176th St. near Topping Ave. in Mount Hope around 6:10 a.m. Thursday.

Fire chiefs are investigating the origin of the fire. An electric fan could have caused the tragedyaccording to landlord Linford Douglas, who saw the device burning in his tenant’s apartment when he went to investigate the smoke.

After being alerted to the fire, Douglas (72) opened the door to a 2nd floor apartment and saw the electric fan on fire. He immediately poured water on him and threw him down the stairs. “It kept burning because it was plastic and the plastic was melting,” Douglas said to the Daily News. When he went to get more water he saw that his door was on fire, he added.

Previously, a woman tragically died at age 86 when a fire destroyed her home in Queens (NYC) and also left three injured.
