Former NBA star Carmelo Anthony announced his retirement in May last year. Recently, he revealed on a show that he had the opportunity to join forces with the late legendary Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, but unfortunately it failed to come true.
Anthony was recently a guest on the podcast “The Why With D-Wade” hosted by his friend Dwyane Wade. He pointed out that the Denver Nuggets originally wanted to trade him to the Lakers in 2010. The deal at the time was for the Nuggets to send Anthony and Nunn. Nene Hilario was traded to the Lakers for Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum.

Anthony revealed that the two parties had already negotiated the details of the deal, but George Karl, then the head coach of the Golden Nuggets, rejected the Lakers at the last minute. When he learned about it, he said, “You don’t want me to stay in the Western Conference.” “You want to send me to the East End? Then send me to New York.” In the end, the Golden Nuggets sent Anthony to the New York Knicks in 2011. Anthony said that he never thought about returning to his hometown of New York.
However, after Anthony made a big detour at the end of his career, he still joined the Lakers in 2021, but Bryant was no longer there. Even though his teammate was his good brother LeBron James, the Lakers did not even make the playoffs that season. If Anthony failed to make it, he also faded out of the league and announced his retirement last year. If Anthony could successfully join forces with Bryan, one can’t help but imagine how the two major offensive players could change the history of the league. Maybe Anthony would not be on the top of the list in the 19th season. Still empty.
