/ world today news/ Three major Chinese airlines reported net profits in the third quarter, a sign that the sector is accelerating its recovery amid increasing domestic travel.
Air China, China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines reported third-quarter results on Friday, showing better-than-expected results and for the first time since 2019 profit. Air China’s net profit was 4.24 billion yuan ($579.76 million), China Southern Airlines – 4.19 billion yuan and China Eastern Airlines – 3.64 billion yuan.
Quarterly passenger traffic also reached record levels – 180 million trips, which is a growth of 108.3% year-on-year. The number increased by 2.6 percent compared to the same period in 2019.
In the winter and spring season of 2023/2024, the number of scheduled passenger flights between China and the US is expected to increase from the current 48 to 70 per week.
