Justin Trudeau Calls Alexei Navalny’s Death in Prison a “Tragedy” and Putin a “Monster” – Full News Coverage

Prime Minister (PM) You have Justin Trudeau mentioned the death of the Kremlin critic, Alexei Navalny, in prison as a “tragedy”. Trudeau also said Navalny’s death had revealed that President Russia Vladimir Putin is a “monster”.

“This is a tragedy,” Trudeau said while speaking on public television CBC to comment on Navalny’s death, as reported AFPSaturday (17/2/2024).

“This really shows the lengths to which Putin… will go to crack down on anyone who fights for the freedom of the Russian people. And this is something that reminds the whole world what a monster Putin is,” he said.

Russian authorities reported that the 47-year-old Navalny died suddenly in the Arctic prison, where he had been held.

This surprising announcement comes as Putin prepares to extend his two-decade rule in presidential elections (pilpres) which will be arranged in stages next March.

Navalny, a charismatic lawyer, is widely seen as Russia’s main opposition leader and the only politician capable of rallying large numbers against Putin.
