Before the end of the transfer window, HC Slovan Bratislava released a “transfer bomb” in the form of the signing of Slovak goalkeeper Jaroslav Halák. However, after Friday’s debacle on the ice of Nitra (1:7), head coach Peter Oremus stated that Denis Godla will be the clear starter during his tenure on the “Whites” substitution.
news-item-description">Hockey club Slovan Bratislava shortly before the end of the transfer period administratively delayed the possible arrival of goalkeeper Jaroslav Halák. The management of Slovan informed about it on its website.
After the meeting under Zobor in the mixed zone, the fifty-three-year-old coach confirmed that he did not personally communicate with the former NHL goalkeeper before signing the contract. “If I can comment on this, there is a definite unit for me and it is Denis Godla. He will always catch, because he has lifted this team, got him somewhere and catches excellently.” Oremus stated.
The manager of the Slovan shift noted that he does not know the next sequence of events surrounding Halák’s arrival at all. “As long as I’m here and I’m going to decide, I’ll always put Godla, because he catches excellently” said Oremus, who pulled Godla from the goal on the ice of Nitra after the fourth conceded goal.
“He couldn’t score goals today and I wanted to spare him because he’s going to score again on Sunday.” added the helmsman of the “Whites”.
news-item-description">HK Nitra hockey players outclassed HC Slovan Bratislava 7:1 in Friday’s match of the 44th round of the Tipos extraliga. “Corgoni” decided their triumph with three goals in the second period and consolidated the fifth place in the table. The Whites are in eighth place and lose five points to the top six, guaranteeing direct participation in the playoff quarterfinals.
It will be decided in the next few days whether Halák will actually play in the extra league for Slovan. The player himself is currently in Boston and could arrive in Bratislava at the beginning of February and March. “I greatly appreciate Slovan’s interest in my services. It is the club from which I bounced back to great overseas hockey. That is also why I would like to be absolutely correct and open to the club management, my future teammates and last but not least to Slovan’s fans at this moment .
I realize that I haven’t been in goal in a competitive game for over ten months, even though I’ve tried to keep myself in good physical shape all that time. We have agreed with the Slovan management that I will come to the club and sign a regular contract only if I pass a thorough medical examination without any problems and my body confirms that it is 100% ready to undergo the load in the matches that await the club at the peak of the season.” the 38-year-old goalkeeper told hcslovan.sk.
It is not yet clear when Halák will return to Slovakia, but Slovan’s management has informed that there will be no administrative obstacles.
