Opposition figure who often criticizes the Kremlin and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Alexei Navalnydied in prison. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres admitted he was shocked by the death of Alexei Navalny in prison.
“The Secretary General is shocked by reports of the death of opposition figure Alexei Navalny in detention,” said Guterres’ spokesman, Stephane Dujarric. AFPSaturday (17/2/2024).
Dujarric said Gutters urged a credible and transparent investigation into Navalny’s death in prison.
“Guterres called for a full, credible and transparent investigation into reports of Navalny’s death in custody,” Dujarric said.
Alexei Navalny Dies in Prison
Previously it was reported that Alexei Navalny was reported to have died in prison in the Yamalo-Nenets district. He is said to have died because he didn’t feel well after going for a walk.
Reported CNN and BBC, Friday (16/2), the prison service in the Yamalo-Nenets district said he felt unwell after going for a walk today local time. He is said to have lost consciousness.
“He almost immediately lost consciousness,” he said in a statement.
The prison’s emergency medical team was called after that happened. The medical team is said to have tried to revive him but was unsuccessful.
“Emergency doctors declared the detainee dead. The cause of death is being determined,” the statement continued.
