Gun violence
Another person was injured in a new shooting on Thursday evening in Vorst. A young man was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds to the buttocks and hand.
The young man said he was watching fireworks in the Dudenpark in the Brussels municipality of Vorst around 8:30 p.m. Suddenly he would have felt a severe pain. His friends then took him to St. Peter’s Hospital in Brussels. It turned out that he had been hit both in the hand and in the buttocks by bullets from a handgun. The young man’s injuries are serious, but his injuries are not life-threatening.
According to the Brussels public prosecutor’s office, this is an isolated event and cannot be linked to other shootings in the capital this week. “On Thursday, February 15, 2024, around 7:30 p.m., an altercation took place between several people in the Duden Park,” public prosecutor’s office spokesperson Yasmina Vanoverschelde told Belga. “One person was injured, a gunshot wound, and he decided to go to the hospital for treatment. The victim stated that he was startled by a bang and realized that he had sustained injuries to the side of his right hand and his buttock. After the necessary treatments he was able to leave the hospital.” The Brussels public prosecutor’s office sent the police to the scene to comb the area and analyze the camera images.
This is already the fifth shooting in the south of Brussels since last Sunday. Then two young men were shot at in Lacaillestraat in the Marolles. They were seriously injured but survived the attack. On Jacques Franckplein, less than 400 meters away, shots were also fired on Tuesday afternoon, with a weapon of war. On the same square, a man was shot dead early on Wednesday morning in the area of Jacques Franck Square, near Hallepoort Park. A few hours earlier, shots had already been fired in the nearby Zuidlaan. There were no injuries.
