The local branch of the CSU Neufahrn organized a Valentine’s Day café. There was a lot of European election campaigning and an appeal from Erich Irlstorfer.
Neufahrn – “I don’t want to single out anyone during the welcome today, because everyone is guests of honor on Valentine’s Day.” This is how Silke Rößler, the Neufahrn municipality’s cultural officer, opened the traditional Valentine’s Café of the local branch of the Neufahrn CSU on Wednesday lunchtime. She was repeatedly asked when the popular format would return after the Corona-related forced break. “And this year I thought, let’s just try it again,” she reported.
Europe “crucial for our future”
And their commitment paid off: many women and men came to the Gasthof Maisberger’s hall, which was lovingly decorated with heart balloons, to celebrate Valentine’s Day together, exchange ideas and enjoy the abundant cake buffet.
However, that was not the only reason why the representatives of the Christian Socials came together. Rather, the Valentine’s Café served as an opening event for the local association’s election campaign for the European elections coming up in June. It was therefore not surprising that Erich Irlstorfer emphasized the importance of the upcoming election in his speech. “Bavaria is our home and Germany is our fatherland. But Europe will be crucial for our future.” The Bundestag member’s appeal: “Go to the polls and advertise it.”
It was also important for him to take a stand on the criticism recently expressed by Andreas Mehltretter (SPD). He was bothered by the CSU politician’s statement at the meeting of the district master craftsmen, when Irlstorfer said the following: “There are 4,000 people in Freising taking to the streets because of the law, but that’s not an issue – the issue is the economy.” This quote However, it was taken out of context, as Irlstorfer explained in Neufahrn: “I was asked what demonstrating against the right would do for a tradesman and I answered honestly: ‘Nothing!’” However, Irlstorfer thinks the current demonstrations against the AfD are right. “The most important thing is that we protect our current peace and democracy and the demos contribute to that.”
“Something like Brexit would be the stupidest thing”
In addition to the member of the Bundestag, Tina Pickert from the Christian Social Workers’ Association (CSA) also came to introduce herself to the people of Neufahrn. The deputy state chairwoman of the CSA will be the top candidate in the European election campaign. “It is very important to me that Europe is portrayed positively,” she said in her speech. And further: “Something like Brexit would be the stupidest thing we could do.” It was also important to her to encourage men and women to vote.
In addition to many words and cake, the guests were also given a flower from Erich Irlstorfer with a greeting for Valentine’s Day.
