Cuban migrant who murdered his partner in Mexico receives 30 years in prison – 2024-02-16 13:19:12

A Cuban migrant identified as Iván Cabrera Martínez was sentenced to 30 years in prison for having murdered his ex-partner in the Mexican city of Tapachula, located in the border state of Chiapas, at the end of 2023.

The sentence was made by a Control Judge and Trial Court after he heard the statements of several witnesses and analyzed the evidence provided by the State Attorney General’s Office.

The crime of feminicide is contemplated in Mexican laws, and is generally punishable with sentences that can reach up to 60 years in prison.

In that sense, the prosecutor’s office issued a statement in which it strongly rejected all forms of violence against women, reaffirming that it was committed to ensuring that these crimes are punished to the full extent of the law.

Murder in Tapachula

The incident was recorded on November 30, 2023, when Yarlenis Ortiz Domínguez, also a Cuban, was working as a waitress at the bar ‘La Caguamera’located on one side of the road that leads to the community of La Pita.

Witnesses indicate that the incident occurred around 2:00 pm, when the man entered the bar brandishing a machete and looking for his ex-partner. Subsequently, the Cuban began to attack the woman, all while the diners tried to stop him.

Although several people present tried to defend the woman, she received several serious injuries, which is why she ended up losing her life at the scene before the ambulance arrived. For his part, the man was detained for a few minutes by the diners, but he managed to leave the bar.

The witnesses managed to attract the attention of a police patrol that was passing nearby, informing the authorities of what happened. Officers ended up intercepting and arresting Cabrera Martínez shortly after.

The victim’s family used their social networks to request help, since they did not have the financial resources to repatriate the Cuban woman’s body back to the Island. According to what they reported on that occasion, the process was complicated, since the woman’s remains They were involved with a homicide investigation.

“We do not have enough resources to return her body to the family that is going through so much pain, that is why we ask for the collaboration of everyone who wants and can to be able to bring her and give her a dignified burial in the warmth of her land and her most loved ones. . In advance, thank you and very grateful,” said Ortiz’s mother on Facebook.

Family and friends explained that the couple was stranded in southern Mexico, waiting for an opportunity to continue on their way to the United States, where they had the objective of requesting political asylum.
