Gleyber Torres is in the last year of his contract with the New York Yankees and Brian Cashman, general manager, assured this Thursday that he has not had conversations with the second baseman.
“I haven’t had any conversations with our second baseman and beyond that,” were Cashman’s only comments about Gleyber Torres.

Torres will be in his seventh year in the Majors, all with the New York Yankees after his debut in 2018. In all his seasons, Gleyber Torres has played more than 120 games, with the exception of the campaign shortened in 2020 due to COVID.
For the last two seasons, the Venezuelan second baseman has been in rumors about a possible trade with the Bronx Bombers, but has remained throughout his years of control.
This season, Torres avoided arbitration with the Yankees after agreeing for $14.2 million this season.
The importance of Gleyber Torres in the New York Yankees offense
Gleyber Torres had a .273 batting average with 163 hits, 25 home runs, 68 RBIs and 90 runs scored in 158 games in 2023.
The Venezuelan second baseman was the leader in hits, batting average, doubles, runs scored and was second in RBIs, OPS, OPS+, slugging and OBP.
Torres has played 6 seasons with the Yankees. He has a .267 batting average, 719 hits, 123 home runs, 378 RBIs and 380 runs scored.
Since his arrival to the team, Gleyber leads hits and is second in runs scored, RBIs and extra bases, behind Aaron Judge.
Gleyber Torres’ Achilles heel is his defense. In 2023, the Venezuelan had -3 in OAA (Outs Above Average) and -4 in Defensive Runs Saved. He also made 15 errors, the second most in a year.
Torres continues to be part of the offensive heart of the New York Yankees and this year he could be an essential part that unites bats like Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo and DJ Lemahieu.
