According to current data from the Unified Tourist Information System (USTI) for the period December 1, 2023 – January 31, 2024, the total number of tourist registrations in our country is 937,527. The growth compared to December 1, 2022 – January 31, 2023 is slightly over 5% .
Compared to the last winter season, during the period December 1, 2023 – January 31, 2024, the growth of Italian tourists is the most serious – more than 30%, tourists from S. Macedonia are more than 15% more, Bulgarian tourists are more than 8% more, British tourists are 6% more.
Compared to January 2023, in January 2024 we note a serious increase in Turkish tourists by over 30%, citizens from North Macedonia who visited our country are 15% more, the flow of tourists from Great Britain increased by 7.5%, and Bulgarian tourists are 3.6% more.
From December 1, 2023 to January 31, 2024, the total number of registrations of tourists in the municipalities with developed ski tourism – Bansko, Samokov, Smolyan and Chepelare is 187,201. The most visited among our ski resorts is the municipality of Bansko with 86,772 registrations. in the municipality of Samokov there are 55,518 registered tourists, which is 16.2% more than the previous winter season, and in the municipalities of Smolyan and Chepelare 44,911 registrations and a growth of 10.2%.
In 2023, the largest number of registrations were of Bulgarian tourists – 5,019,035. Followed by visitors from Romania, Poland, Germany and Great Britain.
As far as urban tourism is concerned, traditional urban destinations in our country are also experiencing significant growth. The capital municipality recorded 13% more tourists in 2023 compared to 2022. The largest increase in the tourist flow in the past year was recorded by Ruse, which welcomed 19.1% more compared to 2022.
Plovdiv welcomed 17.5% more tourists, the number of visitors to Veliko Tarnovo increased by 16.4% in 2023 compared to 2022. Pleven recorded a growth of 14%, Varna also recorded 13.8% more visits, 12 .9% more visitors in Burgas as well. Stara Zagora also sees 4.7% more tourists in 2023.
