AADE’s “bell” for taxpayers with large discrepancies – The first receipts have been sent – 2024-02-16 01:57:31

The Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE) is targeting the first 800 taxpayers for whom a discrepancy was found in the declared incomes in relation to the expenses they have incurred.

Already the AADE has sent “little rabbis» in order for the specific taxpayers to make clarifications about their declared incomes in relation to the expenses they have incurred, while detailed checks have also been ordered for others.

A common feature of the specific “suspicious” tax incidents is the declared income, which is below the 10,000 euro limit, in contrast to the expenses, which in some cases even exceed 300,000 euro.

It is noted that the tax services emphasize that to those who were sent the notices due to discrepancies, it does not mean that they are considered preliminaries tax evaders as there is always the possibility of error in the cross-referenced data. In all cases an audit will be carried out or it will be judged whether the explanation for the deviation is sufficient.

The candidates for review emerged after the great cross-examination that AADE made last fall. On the one hand, 3.8 million tax returns were entered with incomes below 10,000 euros, and on the other, expenses such as these arose from every available source.

Specifically, elements were crossed:

  • Payments through all types of cards.
  • Interest on deposits and bank accounts with cumulative movements of more than 100,000 euros during the year.
  • Interest and loan installments from consumer and housing to credit cards.
  • Retail expenses in all kinds of shops and supermarkets.
  • Spending on buying assets from real estate and cars to yachts.
  • Expenses for life, death, personal accident and sickness insurance policies.
  • Hospitalization expenses in private clinics.
  • Tuition fees in private schools.
  • Even expenses for light, water, telephone if they exceeded 1,000 euros.

The data from the tax returns that were cross-referenced were:

  • 2,413,645 TINs with income up to 5,000 euros and
  • 1,343,890 taxpayers who declare incomes of 5,000 – 10,000 euros.

A whopping 80 million pieces of data and information emerged from the intersection. In the first phase, 440,000 taxpayers with notable differences emerged and after additional crossings, 20,000 TINs emerged with huge differences of even 200,000 – 300,000 euros between declared income and expenses.
