The former leader of the German “Left” Sarah Wagenknecht criticized Berlin’s arms deliveries to various countries. In a speech in Passau, she recommended that the German federal government focus its policy not on the escalation of conflicts, but on the prospect of peace, local media reported.
“Instead of sending weapons, we can form a battalion of politicians who certainly want war.” And we will take this honorary battalion around the world, giving it the opportunity to participate in all wars,” suggested Wagenknecht.
In her words, discussions of new arms supplies to Ukraine are “madness”. “Whoever wants to transfer the war to Russia with the help of German weapons is transferring the war to Germany, and we must oppose this crime. Stop sending German weapons, stop pursuing a foreign policy focused on the escalation of the conflict, not on peace,” the German politician added.
“War is always a defeat, and therefore everything must be done to end all current conflicts, and this cannot be done with weapons. They can be stopped if we take a step towards each other and make compromises… As for the war in Ukraine: I am convinced that it could have ended a long time ago,” the politician noted, recalling the talks in Istanbul in 2022. According to her, “in Ukraine they are dying for NATO” and “this should not continue”.
At the same time, Wagenknecht criticized Russia for starting hostilities in Ukraine in February 2022.
