Hooliganism
Union’s match against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa Conference League was preceded by a huge police action in Dilbeek. About eighty members of the Frankfurt hard core were arrested.
“It was already spotted in the afternoon that several cars with German license plates were parked at the municipal swimming pool in the Kaudenaarde district,” says Willy Segers (N-VA), mayor of Dilbeek. On Thursday evening, Union will take on Eintracht Frankfurt in the Lotto Park, in the municipality of Anderlecht. “The license plates were passed on to the federal police for a risk analysis. This showed that these had been signaled and could be linked to the hard core of Eintracht Frankfurt. The Brussels South police zone, which includes Anderlecht, was aware that more members would follow. Later, twenty to thirty cars drove into the neighborhood.”
The federal and Brussels police immediately intervened. “It is now a besieged and completely closed off neighborhood,” Segers testifies. All Germans present are searched and then taken to Brussels in vans. This concerns approximately eighty people. They will remain there in the cell until at least after the match.
