Kasselakis: He wins internal party battles, opens (and other) wounds – Why did he fight with Flambouraris – 2024-02-15 21:30:55

Alexis Tsipras was very much a balancer in all party meetings. He attempted to bridge various and was always condescending to the objections of the strong intra-party trend of 53 which evolved into “Umbrella”.

On the contrary, his successor Stefanos Kasselakis, although he puts forward the argument of first among equals, but does not grant a sliver from the leader’s imperium to the point that many times the situation gets out of hand and tensions are recorded.

This happened yesterday as well, once again at a meeting of the Political Secretariat, in which he participated electronically because he was in Brussels for the special event on the tragedy of Tempe.

The disagreement with Flabouraris

This time he came into confrontation with the experienced Alekos Flabouraris, a historical figure of the Left, a key political mentor of Al. Tsipras. Just a week before the start of the conference there was tension over the proposal to postpone the internal party elections next weekend, but also the electronic voting that the leadership wants.

There were disagreements and St. Kasselakis once again put on the table the holding of a referendum, if his proposal is not passed and for electronic voting for the selection of new prefectural committees and coordinating O.M.

This move is repeated and seems, so far, to win the small internal party battles, but constantly opening wounds. And these wounds grow and at the same time the distance between several executives and St. Kasselakis for whom they were either neutral or tolerant.

This was also seen at the meeting of the P.G. where the president of SYRIZA defended both live and electronic voting for the nomination of the new prefectural committees and said that if the proposal is not accepted he will propose a party referendum.

At this point, Alekos Flambouraris intervened, who raised an issue about the immutability of the process and is said to have spoken about the “authoritarian behavior” of the president of SYRIZA, and even according to those present, he left the meeting.

Resentment from “silent supporters”

The intervention of Al. Flambourari was not by chance and expresses many who had tacitly supported St. Kasselakis to be elected, appearing as neutral which was anything but, as many are known in the local communities.

Of course St. Kasselakis is president now. He does not have a mandate for party co-administration and is therefore entitled to make the moves he considers appropriate.

It is obvious, however, that many resent it, having in mind a different function of the party and St. Kasselakis does not appear willing to grant spithim from the chief imperium. He showed it with the meeting in Spetses, it was seen with his decision to elect the candidates for MEPs, etc.

This was also done yesterday after the proposal of St. Kasselakis the SYRIZA PG for transfer for two weeks after the Congress of the internal party elections for N.E and coordinating O.M. and voting will take place both in person and digitally.

A strong test for the current leadership is the election of the delegates next weekend who will also elect the new Central Committee at the conference that will begin on Thursday, February 22 at TAE KWO DO with a speech by St. Kasselaki and from which the new intra-party relationships will be seen more clearly.
