The organization of the 33rd edition of the Palencia International Film Festival, which will be held between May 17 and 25, 2024, has presented the bases for the call for the eighth edition of the ’90 seconds of cinema’ contesta contest sponsored by the Youth Institute of Castilla y León, dependent on the Department of Family and Equal Opportunities of the Board, which invites young creators to film short stories using their mobile devices.

With the contest, the Friends of Cinema Association and the Popular University of Palencia, organizers of the film event, are once again betting on an activity expressly aimed at young people, who only need a smartphone and their imagination to create and expose their work to the public. public. The motto chosen this edition is ‘And what do you tell me?’ and the works presented, made with any type of ‘smartphone’, They may not exceed 90 seconds in duration. Their authors must indicate the brand and model used during filming. Editing or subsequent processing of images with the editing programs that participants consider appropriate is permitted.

Participants will have the opportunity to present a unlimited number of short films and they must have a age between 14 and 35 years. On the other hand, they may present creations in any of the following audiovisual formats: 3GP, 3GPP, MP4, MPG, FLV, MKW and AVI. The quality of the work must not be lower than HD720P. The festival organization recommends, however, a quality of FHD1080P to facilitate its projection and viewing in the room.

The jury convened by the organization of the thirty-third edition of the Film Festival will decide the European Youth Card Jury Prize, with an endowment that amounts to 700 euros. In addition, all works submitted to the competition may also aspire to the European Youth Card Audience Award, awarded through votes carried out through the YouTube channel of the Palencia festival, and whose endowment will be 300 euros. As a novelty, a third category has been established, the Impulsa Creación Award for Enseñanzas Medias Alumn@s which will be awarded by the MCIP jury, is endowed with 300 euros and a one-year commercial license for the acquisition of music and sound effects for future productions.

The works may be sent to the website www.palenciamcip.com until April 12 You must provide the organization with your full name, postal address, email address and contact telephone number. Then, between April 22 and May 6, the short films received can be viewed and voted on the YouTube channel. Each of the favorable selections or ‘likes’ received by the competing works will be counted as one vote, with the winner of the audience award being the short film that has received the most votes. The jury’s decision will be known on May 24 and the awards ceremony will take place a day later at the closing gala of the Palencia competition.

This year, as a novelty and with the help of Villamuriel de Cerrato Town Hall During the month of March, the Valladolid director Pablo García will offer a workshop (articulated in four sessions lasting an hour and a half) in four high schools in Villamuriel and Palencia. This training will allow students to acquire general knowledge about the seventh art and specific tools to develop their projects. Furthermore, thanks to the collaboration of Provincial Youth Council This training space will also be reinforced with a creation session and another video-editing session at its facilities (also in the month of March).

Short films, documentary proposals, independent cinema, works for children, music or exhibitions make up, each year, the program of the contest organized by the Friends of Cinema Association and the Popular University of Palencia. They have the collaboration of the Palencia City Council, through its Department of Culture, Tourism and Festivals, the Palencia Provincial Council and the Regional Government of Castilla y León, as well as the private sponsorship of Toyota Palencia.
