King Charles III of the United Kingdom has been diagnosed with a form of cancer, Buckingham Palace announced Monday.
The diagnosis came shortly after the 75-year-old monarch underwent treatment for an enlarged prostate.
«His Majesty received treatment for a benign prostate enlargement. “It was during this intervention that another matter of concern was noted later diagnosed as a form of cancer,” a palace spokesperson said. “This second condition will now receive appropriate treatment.”
Doctors recommended the monarch pause his public duties, Sky News reported.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement that the king “remains completely positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning fully to his public duties as soon as possible.”
“Her Majesty has chosen to share her diagnosis to avoid speculation and in the hope that it can support public understanding for all those around the world who have some form of cancer,” he added.
