Lindsey Vonn Faces Backlash for Calling Roger Federer “GOAT” – Social Media Storm Ensues

It doesn’t take much to create a shitstorm on social networks. Lindsey Vonn (39) had to go through this experience again. The “offense” of the former ski queen: She described the former Swiss tennis star Roger Federer (42) as “GOAT” (Greatest of all time) in a post on the X platform.

Vonn gets in trouble for fans because of Federer’s post

It happened like this: Vonn had arranged to go skiing with Federer in Lenzerheide (Switzerland). A long-cherished dream of the American, which she wanted to share with her online followers. She wrote on a video from the ski slope: “Usually people you admire disappoint you in some way – but not Roger Federer.”

And continued: “You and your family are truly unique and no matter what the statistics say, you are forever my GOAT because it’s not just about numbers, it’s the impact you’ve had on me, and I’m just one of Millions. Thank you my friend.”

Vonn received a lot of backlash from many fans for using the term “GOAT”. Tenor: Not Federer, but Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal would deserve this title much more. Djokovic already has 24 Grand Slam victories, Nadal at least 22, while Federer “only” 20.

One fan wrote: “Do you even know what the terminology of the word is? The GOAT is determined by numbers and successes and Djokovic is currently number 1!”

Vonn’s reaction: She deleted her post on X because she didn’t want to let the numerous negative comments ruin her skiing experience with Federer. She left the post on Instagram, but edited it.

She then contacted X again with a statement: “GOAT or greatest of all time is a subjective title. What makes someone great? Is it statistics? Is it about records? Is it influence? Is it character? Is it all of the above? People have different opinions on this and that’s okay. My GOAT may not be your GOAT, there will always be a debate about that. But opinions are opinions and everyone has a right to them.”
