Eindhoven Airport Closure: Major Problems for Travel Industry, Says ANVR Chairman

A closure of Eindhoven Airport for five months due to work will cause major problems for the travel industry. Frank Oostdam from the travel association ANVR is convinced of this. He is particularly concerned about the relocation of ten thousand flight movements and the transport of approximately two million passengers. Defense will be carrying out maintenance at the airport. It is not yet known exactly when that will happen. “I was very surprised when I read about this in the media,” says Oostdam.

Oostdam tells Omroep Brabant that he understands that maintenance needs to be carried out at the airport. “There must be a good reason for that. What I’m missing is: how to deal with the flights and passengers. How are we going to solve that? What about the flights? There are a lot of travelers involved. How are we going to move them? I assume we will hear that again.”

“Don’t throw the problems over the fence of the travel sector.”

According to Oostdam, Eindhoven Airport is the most important airport for holiday traffic after Schiphol. “Ten percent of holiday traffic departs from this airport. My proposal would be to distribute the flights among the other airports. I realize that it is sooner said than done. But it cannot be the case that the problem of the fence of the travel sector is being thrown. And then there are the airlines. What do they think about it?”

“A good alternative must be provided.”

The year in which the airport’s renovation should take place is not yet known. It is certain that the renovation will be carried out from February to June. “Emergency breaks law,” says Oostdam. “These are the quietest months of the year. But a good alternative must be provided. There are a lot of people involved. For now, we are slowing down. There will be more clarity at the end of the month. If they If you don’t report to us, we will report it ourselves.”

In two weeks, Eindhoven Airport will hear more about both the scope and planning of the work, the airport spokesperson said.
