Today is Valentine’s Day. We therefore asked you for your nicest, most beautiful or funniest date stories. From finding a man in a tiger thong to rediscovering a childhood sweetheart: readers shared their experiences on our response platform NUjij.
Reader Corine1966 thought I would take a Valentine’s Day walk years ago, but it turned out differently than expected:
“I was 29 years old at the time, came out of a long relationship and was open to something new. But what I experienced…”
“I got in touch with a nice man through an advertisement in the newspaper. That’s how it was back then. After a number of telephone conversations, we agreed that I would pick him up at home by car. We would then take a walk on the beach together.”
“I rang the doorbell at an apartment complex. ‘Come upstairs!’ I heard. Naively, I went upstairs. When I arrived at the number, he opened the door. In a tiger thong. He had a body that was completely unattractive to me. “
“I left the gallery screaming with laughter. There was no Valentine’s Day walk, but after 30 years I still have a great memory.”

“My most strange experience happened more than twenty years ago. Then I had online contact with a girl. After a lot of difficulty planning a date, we agreed. She was of Moroccan descent and her parents were not keen on the idea of her dating would meet me. So it became a secret appointment.”
“It was a really fun date. But at the end of the day I found out that the girl I was out with was actually her sister.”
“She did this because she first wanted to know if I was serious and trustworthy. And wouldn’t let her down. After her sister told me this, the girl came over at the end of the date.”
“I never minded it. The first thing that came to my mind was: ‘Hey, that’s smart’. You never know whether people online are who they say they are.”

NOWyou’er Dinosaur met his wife in a special way:
“I think I was 25 years old, still living at home and working non-stop. When I came home one day, my mother told me that in three weeks I had to apply for leave for two weeks. They had found someone they wanted me to introduce a girl/woman who lived in Suriname.”
“Although I was very surprised, I gave it a chance. At the meeting, I left with my family in Suriname to that girl’s house. She was waiting for me there with her family.”
“We spoke briefly. Then we both had to make the choice that day whether we wanted to live together.”
“Five years later we finally got married and she had a full-time job in healthcare in the Netherlands. We were then able to buy a house together.”
“We are still happily married every day. I don’t think you will hear this story often in the Netherlands.”
Reader TDI met his partner about 1,200 kilometers from here:
“I went on a group trip in 2018. I had done that before. That year we went to Italy, where we went on a mountain walk, among other things.”
“I had seriously underestimated it. One of the group members almost pushed me up that mountain. There was an immediate click. Even though we were 1,200 kilometers from home, we lived less than 40 kilometers from each other in the Netherlands.”
“Once we got home we continued dating. We have now bought a house together and got married.”
Reader Clear language When he hears the word ‘date story’, he thinks of his grandfather’s:
“My grandfather had cared for his seriously ill wife (my grandmother) for years, after which she died.”
“A few months later he called the girlfriend he was with during the war for her birthday. He invited her for dinner. They had not seen each other for years, but she agreed.”

“I had an appointment with someone in a café and I was on my moped. I was so nervous.”
“So I enter that cafe. I see that person sitting there, hang up my coat and sit down. After I ordered my coffee, the person asked: ‘And when are you going to take off your helmet?’
“I forgot about that because of my nerves. It never came to anything.”
