SPACE — On February 14, 1990, NASA’s Voyager 1 spacecraft took the first portrait of the solar system family. At that time, Voyager 1 had just completed its grand tour of the solar system and was on its way to interstellar space.
Famed astronomer Carl Sagan spent years convincing NASA to let Voyager 1 spin around briefly to take pictures of the family of the solar system on its way out. The image is actually a mosaic combining sixty frames.
The portrait shows Neptune, Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, Venus and Earth, appearing as small dots. The dot is now known as the Pale Blue Dot. Source: Space.com
